Frequently Asked Questions

Questions on a cork board

Will I save money if I purchase directly from the insurance company?

No! Prices for Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Prescription Drug Plans are EXACTLY the same whether you buy direct or use an agent/broker.  The advantage to using an agent/broker is they know what they're doing and look for the best prices

When can I switch my Medicare Supplement Plan?

You can switch your Medicare Supplement Plan at any time if you are in good health. However, if you have pre-existing health conditions you can only switch if you have a guaranteed issue period as defined by Medicare's guidelines. If you have any questions about this, give us a call. California & Oregon have what's called the "Birthday Rule" Washington State has an "Every Month Rule" and Missouri and an "Anniversary Rule"  You must already have a plan to use these

When is my Guaranteed Issue Period?

During your guaranteed issue period, you do not need to answer any health questions when applying for Medicare Supplemental Insurance. There are several situations in which Medicare recipients qualify for guaranteed issue; the most common of which is the initial enrollment period which occurs when you turn 65 or enroll in Medicare Part B. You also have guaranteed issue if you are over 65 or underage disability and losing your employer plan. There are a few qualifications that may apply to guarantee issue, call us for those answers

I just enrolled in a plan…. When will I receive my new health insurance cards?

Average processing time for new applicants is two to three weeks. Keep in mind, if you are approved for coverage, your policy will be effective on the date indicated on your application. If you haven’t received your new health insurance cards within a few weeks you may want to call your agent/broker to check the status of your application and make sure everything was in order.

Will I qualify for a new Medicare Supplement Plan if I have a pre-existing condition?

Every insurance company has different underwriting guidelines and asks different health questions. It is possible that you will qualify, but not guaranteed. It is best to find an agent /broker who is well versed at this
