Health Care Reform is Coming: What does it mean for Medicare Supplement Plans??
The short answer to this question is “not much”, according to industry experts. Health Care reform is focusing on the financial stability of our health care system, and is largely shying away from any Medicare issues. However, there are a few important items that should be mentioned and are worth knowing.
Medicare Supplement Plans will be changing in July of 2010. This is not a result of health care reform, but rather a recent overhaul of the standardized Medicare plans.
Some leading insurers are dropping Medicare Advantage plans as government funding is being cut for these programs. This has no effect on Medicare supplement plans and individuals who currently have a Medicare Advantage plan that is being dropped can enroll in any Medicare supplement plan regardless of any pre-existing health problems.
Overall these changes are positive as they will result in the financial stability of the Medicare system and will ensure great coverage for people over the age of 65 for years to come.
