Medicare Supplement Plan Changes in 2010
Medicare Supplement Plans will change their benefits to match the federal program’s deductible and coinsurance increases for 2010. There will be changes to the Part A inpatient hospital deductible, hospital coinsurance, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and Part B physician’s services and supplies deductible. In addition, some folks will be affected by the Medicare Part B premium increase.
The Medicare Part A Hospital Deductible will be increasing from $1,068 to $1,100, while hospital coinsurance will be increasing from $267 to $275 per day for days 61-90 and from $534 to $550 per day for days 91-150. Skilled nursing facility coinsurance will be increasing from $133.50 to $137.50 per day for days 21-100. In addition, the Medicare Part B deductible for Physician’s services and supplies will be increasing from $135 to $155.
Most Medicare beneficiaries will continue to pay the same $96.40 Part B premium amount in 2010. However, beneficiaries who DO NOT have the Social Security Administration withhold their Part B premium will have a 15% increase. Their new Medicare Part B premium will be $110.50. In addition, all new Medicare Part B beneficiaries and those who have “higher-income” will pay $110.50.
Medicare Supplement Plan F will continue to pay for all deductibles and coinsurance, while Medicare Supplement Plan G will pay for everything except the annual Part B deductible of $155. We continue to recommend Medicare Supplement Plan F as it is Medicare’s most comprehensive plan. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions regarding these changes. (888) 891-9280.
